6 x 6 Series

So far I've painted 45 of the 6x6 wood blocks this year. They are like thumbnails for the artistic ideas I'm excited about, creating a compelling image with an economy of means. At the same time, I'm moving ahead with the portal series, 80" x 36" archetypal/ mythological paintings based on imagined landscapes. There are also a couple of grand landscapes in the works and a few abstracts. I keep returning to my wife, Anne, working in the garden as my prime subject and model. She is a perfect example of positive co-dependency, having enabled me to continue pursuing art through all of our transitions together. Anne provides the roots and the nourishment from which my inspiration can emerge. Not everyone will grow turnips for you. Or make sourdough bread and coleslaw for you. Or sustain her positive beauty through so many years of life. It is truly the simple things, so easily missed that are most valuable. The prospect of Autumn is welcome after a searing Summer. Relief enough to stop occasionally and reflect
