Varnishing Day

I'm not much of a blogger, I guess. It's been 10 weeks since I've written here. Some of my collectors came by the Wings and Roots Studio yesterday and today for the Varnishing Days event. Here is the invitation I sent: Varnishing Days In Keeping with my commitment to be a full-service artist, I’m offering varnishing service for all of my collectors on August 1st and 2nd, 2009. The Paris Salons of the 19th Century customarily had Varnishing Day when freshly painted work got its coat of final varnish before the big shows. As an oil painting dries, the oil sort of “sinks in”, leaving a dry, pigment rich layer on its surface. When this happens, the color often becomes dull, especially in the dark areas, and varnish will make it look deeper and richer. A lot of the paintings I’ve sold have final varnish on them, but some do not, and any of them will benefit from a fresh coat. The process not only makes the artwork look better, but protects it and makes it easier to keep clean, and I want you to have the best possible experience as a collector of original artwork. You may bring the MM Kent painting you own, frame and all, to the Wings and Roots Studio on Saturday, August 1st, from 8AM-2PM, and pick it up either Sunday, August 2nd, from Noon – 4PM, or arrange for another pick-up time. I will inspect, un-frame and varnish your painting free of charge. There will be refreshments both days and the Studio will be cool and full of my recent work. You’ll be welcome to stick around and watch the process. I hope 2009 is being a good year for you; it has been for me. I feel successful because I paint almost daily. Whether or not you can come in August, please realize that I am grateful for your support of my art, and I’m looking forward to visiting with you again. MM Kent
